DSLRS ARE A DYING BREED

I think anyone who truly believes that a mirror that mechanically flips will always be necessary to produce fine photography need to have their head checked. In this "digital" world mechanical systems are all being digitalized to the point of having no moving parts. Why would photography go unlooked due to anything other than nostalgia?

You have me confused. Are you saying that anyone using Photoshop is not a photographer? I venture to say that it is close to impossible to find a professional photographer that uses a dslr or any digital camera that does not use Photoshop.

I should have been more clear my apologies. Standing in front of something and snapping a photo then spending hours in PS making it look like a cartoon is the job if a graphic artist not a photographer. I enjoy the destinations he is fortunate to travel to. To me, it's a shame he butchers the photos instead of taking the time to get a quality straight out of the camera photograph. I wish we still shot film for editorial assignments. Less people used to throw the word "professional" around then. :)

I have to respectfully disagree. Photography has always lived life in two worlds, straight documentary and creative expressionism. Many of the great photographers of years past spent countless hours in a dark room manipulating their photos, and no one questioned their designation as "photographers." Ansel Adams, arguably the most famous name in photography ever, built his fame and reputation on his prowess as a dark room manipulator, not for what he did in the field. The only thing that has changed with digital is the tools we use. Long exposures, multiple exposures, filters, composites, blends, dodging, burning, different developing techniques,...all these things have been used to express ones vision with film long before the advent of digital or PS.

I think photography as a whole is large enough for both the creative and for those who want to believe that the camera records reality as seen.

I've been following Trey since G+ was first launched. The guy does really cool work, even his "non-HDR" stuff. He is one of the most followed photogs on G+ with over 730,000 people.

Posted in French but the comments below the article help to explain the details. Click on the photo to enlarge the article.

Looks gorgeous, too bad it's cropped. This guy is still looking for a small'ish, high res, full frame home truly worthy of its amazing corner to corner performance though, and I don't care who makes the body.

I agree that they are a dying breed... eventually. Whether it be the ease of use, portability, or built in functions of my NEX-5N, I see myself using it or future camera systems similar to it for most of my photography versus my D300 and plethora of lenses.

As for image quality based on the optics, this IMHO will be where the rubber meets the road. I don't know how well the currently available lenses system stacks up versus my SLR lenses. I've done some quick comparison shots and I'd hazard a guess that they're not far off.

Ultimately the bottom line for me will be if I can get the same or better results using a smaller, lighter, & easier to use system that's affordable, then I WILL CHANGE.
