Dual Alternators?

Here is my thought,

Set up a second alternator on my Jeep, and have that second alternator power a dual battery system that is completly isolated from the main power of the truck.

I would end up with: 2 alternators, main and aux. The main alternator would power the jeep and all its little things wired into it.

The aux alternater would power a battery under the hood for a winch and a few other misc things. and a battery in the cargo area that would power other things.

These batteries would be isolated from each other, so i could run the battery in the cargo space down at camp. And still maintain full power in the battery under the hood for the ability to self jump if i have to.

so here is the questions:
1. can i run a dual alternator setup with the aux alternator completly isolated with out frying the two batteries?

2. If i have the 2 aux batteries isolated to prevent them from drawing off each other, can i still have it set up when i start the truck it charges both batteries? all that while maintaining the ability to allow the batteries to work together if needed?

3 has anybody else ever done something like this here??

Yes you can

Yes you can

Yes. It's done all the time on boats, where there is a starting bank of batteries and a house bank of batteries. The only significant difference is two alternators, but as long as the only common point is the ground it will work.
