Dual Battery Basics

I'm not sure why the truck would try to start when put in gear. Maybe you have a weird grounding problem? Did you recently change the starter wires? I was once working on a truck were the starter would randomly engage. Long story short the solenoid stud at the starter wore through the poorly positioned starter wire and would cause the starter to engage randomly.

But anyway, this is where I'd start:

Take the wire off of IGN E and temporarily put it directly to battery positive without changing anything else does the problem remain the same?

Finally got around to looking at this again and energizing the solenoid from a constant positive doesn't reproduce this. Everything works fine.

I have worked on the starter recently, but I know everything down there is good, not to mention that this problem DEFINITELY only happens when the solenoid lead is hooked to the "IGN E" fuse.

Mostly just weird. Now I'm off to find another 12v+ that stays hot during start.

Found a different line to power my relay off of, I'm thinking the first one was some sort of signal bus. All those 1's and 0's flying around my wiring harness sure seem to work well, but they can definitely throw me for a loop every once in a while..
