Another thing to think about is getting the knot untied when you are done. Good luck getting that knot untied after using it to recover a vehicle. I made that mistake with a tow strap once..... never again.

Good point. The carrick bend is supposed to come undone easily after being loaded. But I personally havent tried it.

The only luck I've ever had is with an all/awl/sp? and lots of time... I'm very careful now not to get any knots in my lines or straps.

Just cut the knot off.
But what would hold? Sheet bend?

Therein lies the conundrum... Which knot that will hold on synthetic line with the least amount of derate? I would suggest no knot and splice a simple fixed eye. Takes all of a couple minutes.
