So the trip reset on my bus has never worked all that well, but at my last tank of gas I reset it again, and boom, the whole thing quit working. Has anyone else run in to this? It's a 97 with an analog odometer.

I had something like that many years ago in my 71 Jimmy. I ended up taking it out of the cluster and bringing it to a local speedometer shop for repairs, cost me around $100 or so. I used North Hollywood Speedo in Socal. Redline is also in Socal and I've heard great things about them but have no personal experience with them....
Maybe see if there's a shop like it near you? Otherwise, I know that NoHo Speedo takes mail orders.

Does the speedo still work?

Mine did. The tip of the worm gear that drove the odometer broke off. Pulled the cluster, shifted the gear on the shaft and its working again.
97 E350.

It's an analog gage driven by an electric motor.

eBay or 'Help' at local auto parts stores sell new gears if needed. The broken one on mine was black and about the size of an HB pencil eraser (if removed from new pencil).

FYI, mine is a 12/96.
