Yeah, everyone asks me about the gas mileage of the V-10, and I always say "That depends on what you're asking it to do!":coffeedrink:

Yep, the rig in my Avatar gets 8.5 mpg if I stay under 65..... Anything faster and its more like 7

@ Java: oof. . . 7-8 mpg. Course what you got there is a small motorhome. My uncle used to get 5mpg with his small winnebago running a 454.

:yikes: 8.5-7...5

Around town the 7.3 in my Ambo doesn't seem much better than the V10 at about 13-15... An open highway run at 65-70 mph, it was about 20. True it'll be more expensive to fix if it breaks, but I'll use the 5-8k I saved (in comparison to a V10 E350) to pay for those repairs. 7.3s are plentiful and parts are readily availible... And she's got torque to spare.

I had a 99 5.4 EB that I moved my folks from NY to CO with.....and several other foolish overloaded tows. It WILL do it every time, but you will feel like you are hurting the truck. These triton motors love to rev however.

I had a 5.4 box van with the five speed auto. I would do another 5.4 as long as it had the 5 speed auto. That truck always seemed to be in the right gear and would pull more than it should.

The v10 is so thirsty, that unless this is a dedicated tow rig, I'd do a 5.4 and deal with sluggishness during occasional trips towing.

The 7.3 diesel is the best, but it seems owners of them are proud and I personally won't own the 6.0

The Chevy 6.0 would be my choice:coffeedrink:
