Hi,

I bought an Early Winters GoreTex tent on Craigslist a while back and won't be using it. These were ultra high-end single wall tents contructed entirely of Gore-Tex. Tons and tons of Goretex. Complete with original bag and perfect condition pole. People swear by these tents, wish they never wore them out, sold them etc. Screen Shot 2014-06-29 at 9.32.30 PM.jpg

The only issue is this: when I bought the tent the coated floor was peeling slightly. Very little, should have left it alone, instead I bought a bottle of tent floor re-coating juice from REI and brushed it on. Let it dry for days but it never properly set up. Sticks slightly to itself, doesn't stick to the un-treated goretex. Tent has that 30-year old tent smell, a bit like a fart.

My thoughts are that someone can cure the floor treatment with additional airing out or heat or???. Otherwise I'd love to see the material repurposed. The tent is a monster and there is SO MUCH goretex here. Bags? Tarp? Clothing? Orange and yellow.

I'll give it to whomever has the best repurpose idea, project or history with these tents and I'd love to have something made from the fabric. Probably wait a week or so to see what ideas are out there. Post here and I'll let y'all know.

Probably not necessary or worth the hassle. I think some good time in the sun would cure the sealant better. I'm in an apartment and it isn't practical for me to have a tent project. It isn't even that sticky, just sticky to itself, almost like some dust or talc or use would remedy.

Who wants it?

That material would great for a custom tonneau cover (which I need) on my adventure trailer and on my 01 Tacoma when my Tepui is on either one of them. When I explore through the great North Maine Woods, the dust can get very heavy and it covers everything in the trailer and/or bed of the Tacoma. And it seems that when it's not dusty, the rain is heavy! :snorkel:
I say custom cover due to the way the load bars are made/mounted onto the trailer and the way the bed rack is built/secured to the Tacoma.

I believe there is enough material there to make a cover for both!

I can't tell, but is this bigger than a backpacking tent? I need something lighter than my $30 K-Mart tent when backpacking with mt daughter....

My vote would be to keep using it as a tent, or give to someone who would.

It'd be great IMO, very nice space to weight ratio + breathable single wall tents are pretty danged pricey.

Perfect for a solo cyclist, or a couple backpackers (split the weight between the 2).

I would be interested if it's still available. I'd like to use as a tent (hopefully getting rid of the fart smell). I'm just getting started getting outdoor supplies together and a tent would probably be the biggest thing I would need. Don't know how much shipping would be on it though.

I recently purchased a CVT RTT(awaiting arrival), My son is getting into hiking the Appalichian Trial and would love to have a tent bigger than his single cacoon style tent. He would love to get a RTT for his '99 Subaru, but finances prevent it. We would too leave it as a tent, cure it, and put it to good use.
