I will give a full report tomorrow but to sum it up this definitely falls in the “deal of a lifetime” category.
Yeah, I didn’t wanna show my cards until I knew I had a winning hand. I will explain everything tomorrow.
Good morning. First of all, a huge thank you to @zooroadbaja , if he hadn't have posted the listing I wouldn't have found it; I wasn't shopping for an Earthroamer...
I emailed Jim and Vicky on Thursday morning at 8am MT, asking for more info, Jim emailed back almost immediately and I asked him if he was available for a call, he was so I called and we spoke at length at which time I told him I would take it. We made arrangements for a deposit etc and I bought a plane ticket.
While I have always fawned over the Earthroamers, I honestly didn't ever see one as possible due to the price. Thursday-Tuesday there was a WHOLE lot of research and day-dreaming.
I flew in to OC Airport on Tuesday afternoon, Uber'ed to Jim and Vicky's and pulled up to a very clean, albeit well loved Earthroamer. Jim and Vicky walked me through the rig, systems etc, showed me some small issues (chipped granite, etc), we closed the deal and I was on my way.
To address some of the questions/speculation that has taken place on this thread:
- The title is clean and clean
- Carfax and Jim spoke of the highway medium collision, airbags weren't deployed and the body work was fixed, no structural damage
- This is not the Mexico Earthroamer
- Jim said told someone on here that the engine was not "Bulletproofed", I have not dug into the complete maintenance records that Jim and Vicky provided to determine exactly what has been done to the 6.0 but I do know that it has been sorted. Jim sees Bulletproofing as a name brand procedure (Kleenex vs tissue) so when he said it wasn't Bulletproofed he was saying that he didn't take it to Bulletproof Diesel in AZ. More to follow on this.
- All of the systems in the camper and truck work very well. The camper has some wear here and there but it was obviously well taken care of
I drove the 1053 miles from Murrieta, CA to MT largely without issue. I did experience the engine air intake hose pop off of the turbo, which scared the crap out of me but is a common issue and very easy roadside fix.
In terms of why Jim and Vicky listed it so low... who knows. They got a lot of years, miles and adventures out of the rig and I think that they just felt like $60k was a fair asking price. I will say that they were excited that it was going to a young family that was going to use it, which we are. Jim and Vicky were wonderful to deal with, forthright with info and showed great integrity holding it for me with an onslaught of offers etc.
Feel free to ask me any other questions.
Who needs a 2014 Quigley with a CCV top?!? https://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/last-of-the-best-2014-e350-v10-4x4.211490/
I am not sure this would be “easy” to bullet proof for most people. I have done them too and one i did was a van with the engine in,NOT FUN!Guys, bulletproofing is easy. 6.0 is an awesome engine once complete. Done it twice. Delete EGR (or buy a better EGR), remote oil cooler, coolant filter, head studs. Way less mystery and drama than people let on. No need to take it out of the truck unless your rebuilding it. In fact if you are taking it out of the truck then FOR SURE REBUILD IT. Can do it all in one weekend and $2500. Or pay somebody $4-5k. This is a rad rig depending on the damage from the wreck. Assuming title is salvage? The camper body alone has real value.
I may own an Earthroamer one day, but who knows.
I am interested on how much it would cost to insure it though.
Very happy for u.
Not yet! Taking offers. Beautiful van.Huge congrats Taylor! I was wondering if you had sold your van yet.
Enjoy the XV-LT, post some adventure pics!
