Quick trip out to the White Mountain area of Eastern Arizona last weekend to try and escape the heat in the Phoenix to get some hiking and mountain biking in.

Spent Thursday night at Canyon Point campground - alot quieter this time since it wasn't a weekend.

Friday I headed over to Show Low area to mountain biking Los Burros and the Land of the Pioneers trail and was somewhat glad to had come on a Friday as there was a schedule mountain bike rally setting up for the next day. The Los Burros trail was a descent ride and fairly enjoyable but the Land of the Pioneers trail was somewhat of a let down and really the only enjoyable part was the downhill switchbacks. Neither trail was overally technical.

Land of the Pioneers (really the only good view, not blocked by trees)

Old building ruins.

After mountain biking it was quick stop at the Greenwood Historic Site before heading to the Alpine Divide Campground for the night (little used campsite).

My destination for the next days hike.

Got an early morning start on Saturday to hike to the Escudilla Mountain lookout (area suffered a wildfire in 2011 and the lookout didn't make it, well the floor didnt) before heading home.

This was the highlight of the trip for me due to seeing the fall colors which was something I wasn't really expecting. I basically had the area to myself minus one camper and her dog who were just packing up.

Heading up the road.

Starting up the trail.

This is Arizona right, kind of made me feel like I was back in Colorado.

The lookout in the distance on the left hand side.

Lookout - missing floor and all.

Spent sometime taking in the view from lookout before heading back down to start back home. Overall, I can't really complain about the trip it was just good to get out and do the things I enjoy that help me to relax.

Slept in the bed of Tacoma both nights which isn't my favorite thing to do but it works when you get to camp late or their really isn't a good place to setup a tent.

I was near there! That overlaps the end of my 2 week trip, camping SE of Carnero Lake. Amazing to have days in the high 70s in early Oct at 9,000 ft.

Yes, it is. Especially, when you've been dealing with 100*+ temperatures.
