This vehicle seems a little suspicious.

A 1967 Diesel Defender?????

Either the year is incorrect, or it's an illegal import, or ???

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
looks like a series inside.. No mention of what diesel it is... I really don't like the frame coating spray, who knows what is under there...

The body could be a 67 but I know that dash is MUCH newer. Thats the same dash in my buddies 93 D90. I have been in a few Series rovers and that sure isn't the dash I remember.

If its over 25 years old it can be imported. Maybe it has been updated with parts from a total.

It's a defender (86' on) that has probably been registered with a transplanted vin from a series. classic black market. that's a defender dash (just like mine). he also mentions that it was a converted left hand drive, so it was some foreign registered RHD vehicle, that was illegally imported (as many are) and then converted to LHD drive (which many do).

Probably not hard to register anywhere, but it is illegal. Only ones that will care generally are federal EPA and DOT. Of course, if they do find it, they will impound it and crush it. ( and I will sense the negative energy in the air when that happens. One might say, a dark presence in the force...)

I saw a few converted "defenders" in Costa Rica. A kit you can put on a Series. New front facia and some interior stuff. If it is a 67 that's what is likely.... but im no expert, I just subscribe to Land Rover Owner International magazine. :shakin:

It's a Defender you can tell from the front grill and body.

The speedometer is in klm so it's a definite import.

The question is why would the year be stated as 1967. It's been know to happen that illegal imports are registered using papers from older Land Rovers that are not subject to Federal safety and emissions tests.

This creates a whole can of worms if the vehicle gets into an accident and VIN numbers don't match up, or the insurance company recognizes that the Series Rover they insured is really a later model Defender that does not meet US safety standards.

Looks to me like a typical British Military 110 circa 1987 that was used in Canada for training exercises. Lots were auctioned off a few years ago...

That would be a good theory, except if it was originally Canadian, it would not have needed conversion to LHD.

I too thought it was military. Interestingly enough the UK military uses left and right hand drive Land Rovers

It looks pretty MOD to me, from that door between the wheel wells. Normally my tell-tale sign. Definetely cool. Even with the black market I would want to inspect it personally. It could be done well or be done incredibly shoddy espeically with the LHD conversion (concept scares me unless done very cleanly)...

It isn't "technically" Canadian. The British Military do their cold weather training in Canada and bring over a lot of equipment - including a number of both left and right hand drive 110's. Instead of sending them back to the UK, the British Military auctioned some old ones off. Canadian law says anything older then 15 years is allowed in Canada (hence why we have so many JDM imports right now).

So it's possible to see both LHD and RHD older 110's here.... all legal. However, most of them are severely beaten.

Or it could be a older body placed on a newer chassis made to look like a 110. The truck is a military 110 (not defender, pre 1990) with the side compartments and 2 piece doors and sliding windows. It could very easily be replicated using a combination of new and old parts.
If I replaced my 88 frame with that of a 90 and made it to look like a 90 is that illegal? No its not. Thats the cool thing about Land Rovers and the ability to combine parts.
