....interesting stuff. I just dig the 3 door..that's all.. i didn't know it was such a hack. I don't know Rovers as well as i should.
Not necessarily a hack. Could be a nice truck. Former military trucks tend to have led a hard life. The crazy thing is that truck would be a $4000 or less truck any where else in the world. Not as crazy though as the Defender 110 at 55 grand.:)

In the spirit of mixing threads, if it wasn't for the air Bag compliance requirements, this wouldn't be an issue, nor would there be an issue with selling new defenders in the US now. It's the re-engineering of defenders to meet air bag compliance that was the primary reason for discontinuing the Defender in the US after the D90 was released here to test the waters.

Sure air bags save lives, but I hate them for other reasons...

looks like a series inside.. No mention of what diesel it is... I really don't like the frame coating spray, who knows what is under there...
Looks like the standard 2.5 l NA diesel engine Land Rover used in the 80ies, very common on MOD Landies. Also the doors with the sliding windows hint MOD; Land Rover just used them on the civil 110 in the first two years, '83 and '84. The front blinker and position light are MOD as well as the head light bezel and - other end of the vehicle - the rear crossmember.

Frame coating spray looks also genuine Land Rover/MOD. ANd the frame defenitely is not a Series III as it has coil springs (well, you can't really see the coils, but you can clearily see that there are no leaf springs ;) ). Funny that the wind shield wipers still are in RHD configuration.

I've seen a lot of sketchy rovers from the same area (Wilmington, NC). Seems they're just doing the classic mix-n-match to get some rovers registered and drivable in the US. Basically a kit-rover.

It never fails to baffle me the knowledge of folks on this board. I had no idea what I was looking at other than the gas tank was empty. Rovers are cool. Maybe one day I will get one. I drove a (I think) '92 110 when I was a valet at a hotel in Fort Worth in 92. I had such a crush on that thing. I have wanted on ever since.
