Strizzo, yes I did purchase the 43 Qt. size EdgeStar fridge. I couldn't pass up the price on it with the free shipping! The 86 Qt. size would have been nice for the price.

I was finally at the right place at the right time! Just keep checking their website! It appears that they continue to cycle through some returns or open box items at least once a month! Hopefully it will be a dependable unit!

The VERY long thread here on ExPo regarding these units seems to suggest that although there have been some minor issues, the customer service from Compact Appliance has been excellent, and the small issues have been easily repaired.

My judgement at this point is that the large cost savings seems to be enough to get this fridge/freezer over the "older" name brands. And some of those older and supposedly more respected models have had a few of their own issues.


EDIT: I would have bought one by now if Compact Appliance would ship to Canada, which they do not, unfortunately.

a few weeks back, they had a 60qt open box for the same price as that 86qt, i decided to buy it when i got home from work, and by that time someone had snatched it up! gotta move quick!

Now there ya go ... like the old college stunt, order the pizza for next door, pizza guy shows, gets told they didn't order it and sells it to you for 1/2 price.
