It would be quite surreal driving with almost no engine noise. It would really highlight suspension slack.

Now all electric could work, but you need one heck of a solar panel set up. Drive 200 miles. Park for a few days. Drive some more.

A diesel electric would be awesome though.

Also, think of a system that used bigger rims so you could contain four separate motors. No axles, no drive train...etc. You'd loose some off road flex, the potential is interesting.

I know. You could haul around a diesel generator and just power it up at night to charge your Defender.

or leave it running to power the electric motors.

quite popular with some boaters..

canadian coast guard ice class ships have it.

I think more than that for the source, and you might have to drop one zero off the miles. Didn't I hear that toy Leaf car was having trouble just getting 40 miles out of a charge on paved highways? More batteries in a bigger vehicle maybe, but with 4x4, lower pressure tires, rough surfaces uphill, lousy aerodynamics, you'd probably have a zero sum gain.

There was an electric land river at EJS Moab about 13 years ago when I was there. Worked a treat, torque on tap, 80 odd mile range so he was fine all day, charged overnight. The no noise thing was a bit disconcerting as he snuck up on you

Considering my average commute, I'd love an electric car. However the price is what holds me back.

But yeah, daily driving a Land Rover Defender with an ARB bull bar, A/C, and a decent Stereo, I'd love it. The 90 is small enough to whip around town, but large enough to push through others in traffic. I park every night in a garage so just charge it up. Have solar panels on the roof for when I leave it at the airport for a couple days.

Carry a Honda EU 2000 in the back for longer trips, lol.
