That looks nice Roamer.:ylsmoke:

A Knapheide distribter called me today. He said that he would talk to Knapheide and if they didn't have anything to offer me that he would see about having it customized for me.:wings:

Getting closer!

Well, change of plans.

I was working in FL and checking Commercial Truck Trader as usual and read a post I had seen many times before. I figured I was close by so I went and looked at it Sunday. I bought it Monday!

It was too good of a deal to pass up!

Tuesday while driving it home I got pulled over by a FL trooper for window tint too dark in a commercial vehicle.

I didn't know that I was driving a commercial vehicle.

I got a ticket of $216 for not having a fire extinguisher or reflective triangles. I am trying to figure out the law of what is required of me to drive this legally but the laws seem to be vague.

I am still happy I got a great deal on it though and getting closer to being where I want to be!

Wow, even after seeing that you just bought the truck the day before, he still gave you a ticket? A little leeway and understanding would have seemed a more appropriate response on his part. Talk about frustrating.

Yes. The first few sentence we had I thought I was going to jail.

I was happy to sign the ticket and drive away.

I will call and see if I can get the violation dropped.

I got back to GA and asked a LLE his opinion and he said that it sounded like the tropper was (in polite words) messing with me.

Hell it's only a one-ton. Fight it in court. Judge will likely say it's dismissed. Half the time the cop doesn't show to contest it.

He said and Federal law does say that "vehicle over 10,001# GVW is a commercial vehicle".

That is clear; the rest is vague as far as what falls under that law.

You can have the truck registered under 10k. I see MD tags on in the pics. Where abouts in md? Also a "not for hire" decal on the door will help. I had a 14k registered gooseneck trailer for a while and "legally" I was considered commerical, even tho I was hauling my personal rig. I put a Not for Hire decal on it per a recommendation of state trooper and never had a issue.

Here in wonderful "Tax it til it drops land" a 3/4 ton is a commercial vehicle. Doesn't mean anything except the registration is 2-3 times what a 1/2 costs.

The truck came from MD, I live in GA.

I might have to get me a "Not for hire" decal.

That is a great looking rig!!! I can already imagine the possibilities!

Thanks! I am excited about it.

I am waiting for it to stop raining here so I can get back outside and continue cutting down trees along the driveway. I already scratched the sides of the bed and I'm not doing that again.
