I always try to design systems in such a way that essential functionality won't be affected if the bells and whistles stop working. So things like digital gauges don't bother me - firstly, these days they are probably more reliable than analogue ones, and secondly, you could quite happily wing it without knowing the exact presssure in each of the air bags!
that is what I have found with digi gauges and their accuracy -- plus more features in a smaller package (I don't want my dash to look like a 747 cockpit). I agree with you about winging it as well. Originally I was against anything that required power...now, not so much.
