I got this one from Martyn and he shipped it like it was gonna be AIR DROPPED, super good job--

I fits perfect in my trailer, size compared to the Koolatron

Here it is in the trailer and at the warmest setting, it reads 40.6 F after 4 hrs with big bottles of cold water inside--FANTASTIC

Looks good! I just got word from Engel that a transit bag and slide lock are in the works for the MR040 as well as an internal basket. They did not have a ETA for me.

:safari-rig: I'll do a little synopsis on the new Engel, I got from AT

I ran it for a few days on AC pwr, to "break it in" then I put it on my trailer battery at 0500 hrs this morning-

I put 12 bottles of water stuff in, to fill up the case

It has varied between 39 deg/43 deg for 10 hrs

and the battery hasn't even worked up a sweat, man what a light current draw-Oh, I have it set on 1/2, not even to the first "1", cause I'm not freezing anything

Really seems like a QUALITY piece of gear

I sold the last one we had in stock to Jim.

We buy from Engel by the pallet load, so I wouldn't have any 40's in until the beginning of August. We have a standing order for the 45 liter fridges and unless someone wants a 40 and is willing to put a deposit down we won't be stocking any.

I can arrange for a fridge to be drop shipped to you no problem.

I had a look at one of these the other day - look exactly the same as a normal Engel on the inside with the plastic case. Here in Oz I'm not sure how well they are going to do as Waeco is already a very competitive player in the market and there would be as many Waeco's around as Engels. For the same price you can get a bigger Waeco and they have been tested to draw less amps than the Engel. Quite a few guys in our club run them and there is a fierce debate amongst us all. I'll always stick to the metal Engels but if I was considering a plastic outer shell I might be swayed to the Waeco side. Food for thought :sombrero:

We have done in depth testing on both the Waeco's and the Engel fridges. The Waeco’s we have tested draw considerably more amperage than the comparable Engel’s. Don't trust posted specs, they are sometimes off. The 35 and 45 liter Engel’s draw less than their posted specs.

Waeco in North America doesn't have a good solution for mounting the fridge into a vehicle. Their version of the transit locking plate needs more work. I’ve checked their OZ site and don’t see anything different offered there.

I think I just added more ammo for that fierce debate that's you guys are having.

The Waeco did come off on top of that test but the general result was all the fridges were good.

Among the smaller fridges, we were particularly impressed with the Waeco CF-40. It was the cheapest unit tested but still had it where it counted, producing a temperature graph that could have been sketched by a metronome and consumed a measly 22.5A over the full 24 hours.

Just to add more food for thought - In out club we have 2 guys who have used the Engel fridge locks on the back of there Hilux Utes and both have broken the plastic on them making them useless - not very impressive. We all now rely on turn buckles and strong mounting points - makes sure the fridge doesn't go anywhere.

I read the report on the fridges, it's not close to the result we got. We tested for 2 weeks and consistently got the Waeco drawing more amps.

This reconfirmed our field tests, where the owners of the Waeco's were having to turn their vehicles on to charge their batteries due to the low voltage warning going off on the Waeco's.

I guess there will never be a satisfactory answer to this question. The only answer I can give you is we no longer stock Waeco fridges.

Thanks for the heads up on the locking plates. So far no problems with them on our end.

Martyn that is very interesting - out of interest what model Waeco were you using and were you guys using the insulated covers? Was it summer/winter?
