Engel slide lock rattles

Hi,

I've been using an Engel fridge slide lock in the back of my Tacoma for quite some time now. Since new, it's been rattling. When the fridge is loaded, its not that noticeable, but empty it rattles around.

I have been considering just simply gluing some additional rubber stoppers at the back end to keep it tight. Before I do that, does anyone have any other tricks up their sleeve that stopped their slide rattles?

Are the rattles harmonic, or general?

That's strange, as it only consists of two interlocking half's??

There are no moving parts.

Have you tried to loctite the fasteners you are using to secure it to the bed?

Hit a bump, the whole thing bangs around. If you grab the fridge and you can feel a bit of play as well. On the highway it's silent. On washboard I often look back to make sure the fridge is OK.

Again with lots of weight in the fridge it is much better - to the point that I don't notice it. Since the truck is driven almost exclusively on trips I have been dealing with it. But I drove the truck around town lately and it's just darn annoying but don't want to take the fridge out. (it's handy for picking up fresh meat and fish!)

Maybe my slide lock is a bit of a lemon, but the tolerances just seem too wide.

Yes, they are connected with locktite, but its not in my bed.

My rear seats are removed from the doublecab and I have a platform with steel mounts that go into the factory seat bolts. The platform, made of wood, is bolted to the steel mounts. There is some flex in the wood platform, but there is absolutely no rattles.

Is there a bow in the mounting surface that is causing the two halves not to interlock correctly?

I think I'd check to see that the surface was flat.

Take the locking plate off the mounting surface and see if I could get the thing to rattle.

It's very strange because there isn't much to it and it shouldn't make any noise at all.

There should be no bow, but I'll check that. It just simply seems like when the slide is locked there is a bit of play and thus it rattles around.

When your slide is locked and you push the fridge back and forth, is there any movement?

I had this problem briefly and discovered one of the feet on my fridge had unscrewed just enough to give it some play. After I tightened the foot down all rattling went away...

Hope that helps.

Hey now that's a possibility! I'm going to check that right now.

If you don't use loctite on the feet provided with the slide lock they vibrate loose and you can end up losing your fridge.

Put blue loctite on the machine screws that hold the feet to the body and you'll be right.

Check the feet mountainpete.

First I have to apologize guys. I realized that I made one major mistake in this thread. I called the product a slide lock - it is, as I realize now, called the Slide TRAY. Stupid me. Many apologies!

I have this:

That last run to the garage and taking it off the tray helped me find the problem though. On the side with the tray with the latch on it, it appears that it doesn't actually touch the back roller. There is about a 1 - 2 mm space. I stuffed a piece of rolled up duct tape in there and it's silent.

But I don't see any way to adjust the rollers (it's dark and cold out there so I didn't look too long). Is there a way to take out the gap in a less ghetto way?

We don't use the Engel slide so I know nothing about it.

Give Paul at Engel a call.

Had the same issue - I took an adjustable wrench and used it as a clamp to bend the latch towards the rear - it tightened up the bit of roller movement.

It would be nice to have an adjustable stop in there somewhere ;)

We have had this problem since new as well. With ours, it didn't matter if the fridge was full or not. We have since moved the fridge to the bed of the taco to make room for flyingbaby and now it doesn't bother us. Looking forward to hearing what you discover
