.....It's hard to beat the prices and customer service at both Adorama or B&H. Both have excellent online sites with a huge selection of anything photography related.

Adorama and B&H can both be trusted.

Thanks so much for the recommendation and feedback - very much appreciated :wings:

BTW if you ever need advice or after-sales support with an order from Adorama Camera, please don't heitate to email me directly.

take the step into DSLR photography!!!

yes your best camera is he one you carry which a point and shoot is great for throwing in a cubby or pocket.

i try to always have a point and shoot handy, but also try to keep the big camera near bye for when you really want to take photos.

the range of creativity is endless with the right set-up and you will wonder why its taken you so long to get into photography.

my suggestion for a starter kit on a budget would be a

canon 40d/50d with 28-135mm 3.5-5.6 USM and a 50mm 1.8......

with a few books of photography and they also make camera specific guides

i have a buddy on here who is a photography buff im sure he will chime in soon.... just know megapixels don't make a camera!!!! for instance the g11 vs. 40d same-ish megapixel but 40d is on a diff. level !!!

I am far from an expert, but I will throw this little tidbit out there:

After watching not one, not two, but three of my "advanced" point and shoots (one of them my prize Canon SX200) suffer mechanical failure on our recent Navajo trip, and watching the DSLR guys pop their lenses off at camp and clean their cameras so they could keep shooting, I will never have another fixed-lens camera as primary again. The ability to "take apart" and clean the camera in the field, IMO, is priceless.

Whitex: great pics!

Also another P&S to consider if you want to step into more advanced photography are the Ricoh series of digital P&S.. the Ricoh GRD, has a wonderful fast & wide angle lens and user friendly manual controls.. The GX series has the zoom if you're looking for that range.

tHank u all for the info. i would love to keep researching but my busy schedule hardly allows that. I have no time to wait for shipping. So im going to go to best buy and purchase a canon package. The camera is eos rebel xs. It comes with a 18 55m lense and a 75 300 lense, a memory card and case for $700. I already have pelican cases at work and own a few bug out bags that i will use as my carry bag.
What do u guys think?

Check this out at Best Buy. Part SLR and part Point and Shoot. A really good option and around $600. You can buy adapters to use just about any SLR & rangefinder lens ever made. This type of camera is the future of photography for the average person. The Micro 4/3 system will end the SLR's for everyone except professional photogs.

X2 on the Olympus E-Series.

I love my 3 year old E-500 combined with 3 lenses:
  • 14-45mm
  • 40-150mm
  • 70-300mm
and filters all tucked neatly into my KATA ergo-tech backpack. I carry it everywhere, have room for a laptop, spare keys and blackberry as well as a small pocket knife, fire starter, rain poncho and miscellaneous little extras.
