Sleeping comfortable inside the Jeep with everything I brought minus the chair I left outside that night. It's all packed nicely in behind the Engel.

I am jealous of your setup here. My tj is fun but sometimes I wish it was a little longer.....

How hard was it to snake the wires through the hardtop? Any suggestions on how you did this? I'm getting ready to run the same setup and I want it to mirror your install

I drilled a half inch hole at the bottom to accept the grommet. You might try using a smaller size drill bit at first and work up to the appropriate size. The hardtop is some sort of fiberglass/plastic and has a tendency to splinter/chip. If you have access to a step bit I would use this. Then I simple used a piece of 18 gauge wire to fish down from the top. Then pulled it thru using a small pair of needle nose pliers and a scratch awl. Then simple tape the real wires to the 18 gauge wire and carefully pull them thru. A little patience and you should have success.

Good Luck!

After about an hour of trying to fish the wire down and find it through the hole, we did! I ended up stopping the install after getting the light wired up, weather stripping on. I just need to go in this week and connect the wires from the light to the jeep and go from there. I'll take some pix once I have it finished up.

Thanks for a great write up and inspiration. Very much appreciated.

I am currently using a Nemo Cosmo Luxury Pillowtop 1P with a Strato Loft 25 sleep bag. Although I have used other 2.5" thick sleeping pads in the past. Just for information this Nemo pad is 25" wide. For the 5" gap I just stuff a jacket or a soft bag to take up the space. On this particular trip I actually put a semi full MSR Dromedary Bag in that location. Kind of like camping on a water bed - J/K. Here are some links -
