Hello All,
We are currently at the Overland Rally in Ellensburg WA, and having a great time. One of the nice things about the Rallies is the broad variety of vehicles all in one spot. TacoDoc is here, helping out as he always does. I asked him if he would indulge me in a little experimentation.
We have received quite a few inquiries about Escape Gear seat covers for the 2nd gen Tacomas. Escape Gear is based out of Cape Town South Africa, and have the Hilux Vigo as their similar platform. Our experience in matching their seats to ours is good on most, but off on others. The Tacoma being one of those seat models that we haven't match perfectly yet. So I had a thought. I wanted to try a set of the front seat covers for the Jeep Wrangler JK. From the photos I have seen of both, they looks pretty close.
Dave was gracious enough to allow me to try these seat covers on his front seats. To my delight, they are a really good match. The seat back height is right on, the seat base is very close, the lumbar fits well, the head rest post holes line up and the head rest cover fits like a glove. The piping along the edges look like they were designed for these seats. We were very excited to see how well they fit. It will require a little patience to tighten the strap for the seat bottom. You have to find your way under the small carpet piece on the bottom back of the seat in order to attach the front straps underneath. The stretch straps along the sides of the seat bottom attach to the friction buckles on the seat back panel, and locate under the seat hinge. Take a look at the photo. The covers look a bit loose, but that is from the location of Dave's flashlight. We tightened the other seat just fine. It even locates the adjustment handle near the hinge on the driver's seat.
I am comfortable to say that the JK seats are an excellent solution for any 2nd generation (2005 - Present) Tacoma owner looking for a great seat of seat covers. If you have any questions, just let me know. We offer these colors in grey. They are in stock and list for $395 for the two fronts with head rest covers. Pricing adjustments happen on August 1, so now is a good time to act.
Cheers
