Oh I read that too. Remember I'm keeping it all sealed up so as joe917 said that will sink my submarine. I think I can use a high temp ball valve mounted somewhere I can easily open it or just do a push pull cable to operate it. Looking at a stainless valve rated for 450F. Anyone know how hot the exhaust gets right near the unit?
 
Regardless, with such a specialty item, Id advise you follow the installation guideline to the letter.

I agree, and the main reason here is that you basically are chucking any hope of tech support out the window, should you encounter even the smallest problem later. If you have any hiccups with combustion (due to altitude, fouling, or whatever), you'll be wanting help. However, as soon as they hear you've plumbed the exhaust against their recommendations, they'll tell you to correct that first and call back later.
