Expedition Rack for a JK

I just ordered a Gobi. They will definitely support a RTT.
The Yakima rack I've had on mine will support a RTT, but I don't like the idea of having to disconnect everything (lights) to take off the roof.

I looked at Wilderness Racks, but they say that the weight limit is 200 lbs, not enough for two people. I'm a big guy at 225 lbs, so even by myself I excede the weight limits

I notice Wildboar has tow weight limits, operational and stationary. That would solve my problem. Gobi only has one wight limit of 300 lbs, would their stationary limit be the same as the 1,000 lbs that Wildboar publishes?

I remember reading somewhere that the "moving weight limit" for the Gobi is 300lbs, but the "stationary weight limit" is closer to 800lbs.

I have the Wilderness rack on my JK and I'm pushin' 250, I've climbed around on it with no problems. I've carried 10 2x4"s and 18 fence planks up there with no worries that the rack would fail...did make cornering fun though:Wow1:
my JK had the rack on it when I bought it and if I were to do it all over I'd go with the Gobi rack..

Gobi

I have had a gobi for over a year. I would have no problem putting a large amount of weight on top of it in a static position. It's super beefy. I looked at the Wild Boar, but I don't like the idea of drilling into the tub. And the Gobi has the removable section above the freedom tops.

I have been very pleased with our Gobi that we have had for almost a year. It carried plenty of weight when we did a 3 week trip of over 2,200 miles.

I highly recommend it.

What ever you use, I strongly recommend a fairing to damp the wind noise.

If you have a hard top, check out the Front Runner roof racks, in both a 1.4 or 2.2 meter length. They are light weight, low profile, and stout enough for the job. No bars down the windshield or rear of the truck. If you are looking to only carry a RTT, a rack is redundant. There is a load bar system too, for a whole lot less money.
