Fair number of Hanomags in those pictures. They have to be pretty slow with a low top speed compared to the others given their limited horsepower. They seem to be the most reasonably priced 4x4 campers on Mobile.de.

The top speed is around 50 mph.

I was reading a German forum (translated by Babelfish) which seemed to be discussing some weaknesses in the Hanomag's transmission. Do they have a reputation for transmission failures?

I didn't hear anything about this, but I don't really know.

Sorry for the quality, 2 year old camera phone...the bottom of the door says "Last Great Road Trip"...

Curious I Googled that and found this:

LGRT

Seems to be a local, I emailed them and invited them to join the board!

TeleScooby... thanks for the invite to the forum... You were right this is a great group... Keep an eye on my Adventure Road Trip blog. The rig will be getting some more mods... Might not be as exotic as a Unimog chase vehicle but it made it to the Arctic Ocean last year and we are heading to the Baja next... Thanks again for the invite to here.

Nice sportsmobile!

Does anyone know who makes that flood light that's on the side, just under the awning?

I'd like to find some like that.

flush mount lights

I was looking for similar lights and didn't like the RV ones. I bought two ITT Jabsco flush mount floods part number ITT45960-0000 from marineengineparts.com. I have one on each side of the camper.

They have one left on clearance here

look about 2/3s down the page.

Obviously marine grade stuff is more sturdy and more expensive. You might like this light as well, although not flush mount.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I was searching google for "flush mount flood light" but wasn't turning up much.

Info: Young couple from Germany in a rental Mog. Mog rental company is located in Santiago, Chile. Web address is on truck.
Comments: Noise in Mog cab at speeds faster than ~40-45mph was brutal. Husband still intent on following lifelong dream of building a rig on Mog, wife decidedly less enthusiastic.
