Looking good, I'd love to see my 4.0 look that clean. Mine has 265xxx miles on it.. She's a bit used.

It's rather easy to clean it when it's "out of the box"....but what's most "pretty" is what the vehicle and engine will do. With that mileage it sounds like you've had plenty of good and beautiful times with yours.

Thanks,
Fred

Do you have more interior pictures with the bolt-in cage? And sandwiching on the floor mounts to they don't just punch through?

Any shots of the install and mounting would be greatly appreciated.

About as ready as I can get it............

I finished the wiring and breather hoses in the engine compartment today........went ahead and put a fresh coat of paint on the front axle to boot. The transmission, Klune and transfer case are back in loosely bolted with the linkage in place.

I guess the only thing I'm waiting for is the new:

Then it's time to put the powerplant back in place.

It's been over a year since I started working on the engine.....hope I remember where everything goes.....always a bit disturbing when you have a few nuts and bolts left over.

Thanks,
Fred

After 15 months of down time......she lives again.....

Always a bit scary the first time you try and start her up after so much work.

Just a bit more to do, exhaust, fan wiring, air cleaner and I'll be on the road first and then the trail!

Thanks,
Fred

One of the nicest Cherokee's I have seen in a very, very long time. Congrats on a solid build!

It's posts like this that get me inspired for my xj. I had plans to sell but if I can't get the right price I'll dump more money into it. Your xj makes me just want to keep working on mine. Great job keep it up!

Tine for a new Tranny....................

The last piece of the original drive train finally decided to quit. I've been having some "issues" for a few years but didn't realize just how serious they were until I visited my transmission guy and he tore the unit apart exposing just how worn and "burnt" it was.

Transmission shops always kind of scare me, I see those carts and tables with so many unfamiliar parts laying around and ask myself how could anyone keep track of so many little parts!

He told me he could re-build it but f I want all the latest factory modifications and all parts replaced it would be better to get a re-mfg. one. So after my limited research I found Certified Transmissions in Nebraska who happen to have a core available for their re-mfg. process and in about a week it was ready to ship.

Here it is in it's own neat cocoon complete with all new cables, harnesses and fluid.

In just a few days the lonely dusty XJ will make it's way home once again under it's own power.

Next trip for it is the Rubicon Trail just after Labor Day week end.

Cracked T-Case!!!!!!!

With other vehicle options to take on trips, Explorer 1 doesn't go out as often. Unfortunately, on it's last trip when I arrive home I discovered a rather large puddle of ATF under the vehicle. Closer inspection showed it was coming from the Transfer Case.

Turns out that when I had the new driveshaft made to accommodate the increased length due to the Klune V David underdrive, the guy miss calculated just how much droop I could pull on the front suspension. The day trip out to the Cleghorn has a few spots where the suspension droop is maximized and the drive shaft being too long, put the stress on the T-case housing resulting is the following:

So off it comes along with the Klune:

Found a front half of the T-case with the same casting number so looks like I get to learn a little about taking a T-case apart and putting it back together.

Hope it works right he first time.......we'll see.

Fred
