I'll be there from SF, CA -
Not ready to take the net yet. If I could get on using Echolink I would consider doing net control.

I will make a drive in an attempt to hit a repeater with IRLP. Sign me up as a tentative!

I work 3p-3a that day but I will try to make 7p my lunch time....everything depends on the surgery schedule.
Funny that I am in central phx with tons of IRLP access and it is work that keeps me off the net!
Between now & then I will try getting on IRLP with my handheld from in the building so I don't have to waste time going to the parking lot.
Otherwise I will just pack a lunch and keep it in the truck fridge.
thanks Mark for keeping this going...
We are scheduled out thru jan but after that I will see if I can split my schedule to get the Net tues off.

Since we don't have a guest speaker, the net will be a roundtable discussion.

What do we want to talk about? Suggestions please!

We could each recap then answer questions about our favorite trip, or...?

I am currently researching the following trips:
The Great Western Trail (north-south dirt route from Mex-Canada)
A 4x4 version of the TransAmerica Trail ( a east-west dirt route across the USA)
So any info on those trips would be great.
And I am always interested in talking about packing systems, camp showers and all things overland related :)

I will try to be on if I can figure EchoLink out. I've downloaded it and I'm playing with it now but I've got a ways to go.

I just downloaded, installed, & validated at Echolink. I'll try to join you guys if it works.

The Prescott node #3182 is on 2M simplex (147.56 - no tone) near the Prescott Airport. It used to be on 70CM at a hilltop repeater site, but due to interference it had to be moved. I can get it from Chino Valley quite clearly, but I'm not sure if you could access it from the top of Bill Williams or not. That would be roughly a 50 mile line of sight transmission - doable, but on the edge...

Some of you are talking about echolink - Can you connect to IRLP via echlink? If so I need a little direction. I searched the 9251 node and western reflector on the echolink and found nothing.

I think it can be done but I don't know how yet.:sport_box

Maybe a short recap of the Moab trip that most of us are missing out on? Or like Lance mentioned, packing systems and all things overland is always a good topic!

I installed it, validated it, and tested it the other day (without a mic and without transmitting, though). It looks to me, like one can use their computer with a mic and speakers/headset almost exactly as if it were a ham radio on the frequency desired. I am pretty excited about this, if it is true. It appears that provide one has their amateur radio license, they don't even need to own a ham radio to chat on ham radio frequencies. How cool is that?

Echolink is pretty cool although I have yet to actually have a qso with anyone. When you hear your own voice in the headphones it's really weird.

But can you use it to connect to IRLP - more specifically can you connect to the 9251 western reflector? - I don't think so -

I found this link http://www.narri.org/Reflector_925X_Rules.html

Western Reflector Policies for Operating on Reflector 925X

No Cross Links to Other Voice-over-IP Systems
Cross links to other linking programs (echolink, eQSO, etc.) or even other IRLP reflectors to Reflector 925X are prohibited without permission of Kent W7AOR. However, the Alaska Reflector Ref 9070 is cross connected to Ref 9250 by agreement of the two reflector owners; when cross connected nodes on either reflector may communicate with the other. Ref 9258 has a special link to NV-GATE Echo Conference Server for emergency service nets in order to accommodate Echo link and IRLP nodes at the same time.

This makes me think you can not use Echolink to access the IRLP Western Reflector... I might try to contact Kent W7AOR to ask him.
