Express AWD Winch Mounting

One thing that has always bothered me about my AWD Express is the lack of a front recovery point.
I mean, if I get stuck there is really nothing up front to hook a strap or hook to.
I have seen a few guys that put trailer hitches up front, but I have a very limited approach angle and don't want to decrease it.

So my thought is to cut off the front cross member and replace it with a winch mount.
I'll bolt or weld it in place and cut a slot in the bumper for the line to come out.

There is room for my Englo 10,000# winch but the solenoids will need to be relocated and I'll have to figure out the free wheel lever.
I'll also cut slots in line with the frame for two shackle mounts to come out through the bumper.

Anyone else thought of, or done something like this?

Cut out the crossmember and put a plate in its place. Be careful the frame does want to move after you cut it. Clamp it in both directions to keep it from moving.

Mine is not an awd, and I don’t remember exactly how the frame on my old awd one compared to this one, however I did exactly what you mentioned. I cut the crossmember out and redesigned it.
This is with the winch mounted flush to the bottom of the framerails.
It is a smittybilt 9k of a couple years go, and I was able to fit it and all the electronics in there.
Cut two holes in my grill to access the controller plug and the free spool lever.
