Extending tongue on M101CDN?

What ways have others extended the tongue and converted to a Lock-n-roll?
I've thought about removing the 'C' channels and running all new pieces from the frame to the hitch but I'm uncertain of the angles to attach a coupler to.
(If that makes any sense)

Have you some pics? Might aid in making suggestions. I'm not too familiar with those, so some pictures would help me.

This photo shows the 2" receiver tube "shoe" I fabricated to slide over the original drawbar casting on my Bantam T3-C. Although the photo shows a ball coupler, the Lock n' Roll coupler also fits. (The reason for the 2" receiver tube is to extend the tongue and allow interchangability between ball coupler, lunette, and Lock n' Roll).

after the implant....

I also changed the location of the jack so in transit it tucks into the c chanel and under the tray.

The idea is basically the same in most " transplants"

What's the deal with extended tongues anyhow? It would seem like the trailer would be more likely to get hung up with a longer distance between the tow vehicles rear wheels and the trailer wheels.

The extended tongue really helps with backing up. It also puts more positive weight up front (before load) which can help during highway speeds unloaded.

Also gives you extra space for a tool/accessories box or firewood ;)

Ease of towing behind a bigger taller vehicle-backing up is much easier and a chance to jacknife the trailer is minimized.
Also more room to install more crap up front...:wings:

On difficult trails surely an extended tongue is a negative, increasing the wheelbase of the trailer. But for most uses, including most off-highway, a moderate extension won't cause a problem and will have some advantages.

After adding my rear bumper with swing-a-way tire carrier I couldn't open the rear hatch on my 4Runner because the tire carrier wouldn't clear the front of the Chaser. I had a 22-in. extension made at a local trailer shop. It was 'just' long enough to clear on level ground when the combination was perfectly straight. In practice during a recent trip I needed a couple more inches. I sold the extension and just had a 26-in. stinger/extension made which should give me the clearance I need for my tire carrier. The extension can always be removed the the trailer hitched-up close.

Like others have noted, the increase wheelbase is nice for towing stability and makes reversing much easier.
