External Reservoir coilovers for expedition travel

I purchased a set of SwayAway external reservoir coilovers for my FJ cruiser and am now wondering if I may have jumped the proverbial gun. The thought was to replace my OME setup with a better, rebuildable setup. I got a great deal on the coilovers but have yet to install them since I am waiting on fabrication of the reservoir mounting brackets. I've been thinking a lot about mud and snow travel and the likelihood of damaging the reservoirs while traveling. So my question is:

What are your thoughts on running external reservoir coilovers for expedition travel?
 
I'd run them in a heartbeat. The reservoirs and hoses are stout, no more likely to fail than anything else. They have the obvious advantages of more fluid volume and greater cooling.

But then again I'm running 2.5" Air Shocks in the front of a 4BT Yoda. I'm not to be trusted.
 
99% of the trucks and buggies involved in off road racing run them with 99% having no issues. I think with expo travel you should be OK.
 
Well you got the quality and rebuildable part. Its probably overkill for basic overlanding. Your suspension won't cycle nearly hard and long enough to justify resivoirs. Unless you are running hard in the desert/ sand, you'll be fine without.

You'll probably want/need them in the future as you progress though.

But here's my take on it; you got them for a good price. You can either run them or you can flip them for more than you paid and get something suited for you.
