eye opener about gvwr

The old geezer in Barnes and Noble is giving all of us concealed carriers a bad name.
You need no help in that department. I conceal carry everywhere that doesn’t have a metal detector and no one else has ever done anything that can give me a bad name.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say.

Just because we can open carry doesn't mean we should. It has the knock on effect of hurting us responsible gun owners who conceal carry. When there are bozos walking around Target with an AR and B&T silencer it tends to do more harm than good when the uninformed public sees it and has a visceral reaction.

Now that is something we agree on!

This shows some numbers for a Gen3 Tundra with an overlanding build and a small pop up camper.

Oem curb weight= 5,800 lbs,
GVWR = 7,300 lbs (1500 lb payload)
Loaded weight = 8,600 lbs... so 2,800 lbs actually added to the stock truck.

And 12.1 mpg on the trip too, vs 15.6 mpg for the guy driving the Gen2.

Wow. 1,300lbs over weight. That would make me nervous. He definitely needs that F350.
It's very common, maybe even typical to add ~3,000 lbs with a light offroad camping setup. Even on a 1/2 ton. People underestimate how much "all the little things" add up. With proper tire and suspension mods, it will handle and ride fine, as the owner of this one stated. Durability would be the main question... and going by the experiences of others (if possible) is a good guide I think.

Here is a Tacoma that weighs 7,200 lbs with a 5,600 lb GVWR and ~4,400 lb stock curb weight. https://expeditionportal.com/is-your-overland-vehicle-overweight-here-is-a-possible-solution/

When I was in Law enforcement, we called open carry folks "shoot me first" folks. Same with people who wore 5.11 stuff and tactical vests.
