F-150 Suspension Questions

Hey friends,

Does anyone have experience with either of the 2 below?

Fox Stage 1

or

Bilstein Stage 1

The price does not matter to me much as they're only $150 or so apart.

This will be going on me 2017 F150 STX. Stock suspension as of right now and I might have a chance to get some raptor take offs for cheap so need the extra room to clear 35's.

I do not plan on doing any hard core offroading like a raptor run or anything like that. Just some basic trails and exploring around the local mountains and desert.

I am leaning towards the Bilsteins. They seem to be designed better based on the specs/information provided and it seems they were designed for this truck compared to fox that only brought their package to the market to compete with the Bils.

Thoughts?

I have 516x rear shocks and for the money I've been fairly happy with them.
I'm only running 5100 series up front and stock springs.
I have a steel truck tho.
Looking at the price I think for $900 that would be good performance.

I have the Bilstein 5100s on my truck and they were a really noticable improvement over the OEM shocks. They do need to break in though, so your first ride with them might be a little firm.

I have the Bilsteins on my 12th Gen, 2012. The 5160 is great in the rear. No more bounce or side skips on washboards. It’s just a 5100 with a reservoir

The 6112 is awesome up front. The coil is the correct weight and the strut is far beefier than a 5100 or a 2”. I much prefer digressive for most driving. Especially when towing to prevent any wallowing. I dont race off road, but I can take the same trails I use to take at 10-15 at 25-30 now with the same comfort level.

Yeah that's kinda what I thought... Fox definitely has the upper hand in the offroad segment.

I know I just moved out to your neck of the woods, perhaps go up to Kearny Mesa and check out ORW and see what they have on hand for you. They could probably spec you out a system that would work for your needs as well. It may be worth your while to get new leafs as well. I saw some Deavers on Craigslist recently, but you may be able to find something new that suits your needs.

I know from my limited exploring heading east into Anza Borrego and Ocotillo Wells that I'd like something a little more firm in the rear suspension when going a bit faster.

Exactly the type of feedback I was looking for thank you!

Appreciate the feedback. Haven't been to that ORW, or the one in Escondido since high school.

Been checking CL every day for used stuff but never seem to come across the Good used stuff. There the same fox setup for $700 but it looks to be a little too used for what I am looking for.

Any idea if I can slap some take off raptor leafs on my 17?

I'm not sure, also I'm not sure if that would be an outright improvement. There are some 2020 Raptor leafs for sale pretty cheap on craigslist RN as well. I'm pretty high on Deavers since I've driven a truck like mine with them on and getting that block out of there and making the rate more progressive does wonders. It feels more planted putting power down and less shaky on the rough stuff (both offroad and HWY 52).
