These numbers are based off the 2018 model year

Are there auto transmission options or do all these have the 10 speed?

Are the 2.7 and 3.5 both twin turbo?

The 2.7 and 3.5 are both twin turbo.

I'm not positive about the options in 2018, but I think they're probably all 10 speeds. At least that seemed to be the case for the 2019s.

I have a 2019 5.0L with the 10speed.

In practice the 2.7L really scoots (you can look up videos) and delivers ~15% better MPG than the other two. If you don't plan to haul or tow heavy, I think that is the best pick.

If you get the 2.7 and are concerned about GVW/payload, you'll want the 2.7 payload package. Without the payload package, the 2.7 powered trucks have a 400 lb lower GVW than the 3.5 & 5.0 powered trucks. Other than that, the 2.7 will move. Once you add the payload package, you give up a lot of the 2.7's pricing advantage. I was more impressed with the 2.7 that I test drove than I was with the 5.0, but I couldn't beat the deal I got on my 5.0.

I'd go 2.7 with payload package, 9.75 rear end instead of the super 8.8, heavier GVWR.
2018 I'm pretty sure all three had the ten speed and only the 3.3 NA had the 6R80 as a carry over until 2021

I had a 2016 2.7 and it returned great gas mileage, only towed with it once, an old heavy closed cuddy boat for a friend and it did very well for me being a complete novice to towing at that time. I now have a 2012 5.0 and tow frequently. If I could get a new truck I'd get a new 5.0 but my needs have changed since I had the 2.7. All 2018s should have the 10 speed, both of my trucks had/have the 6 speed. I think the 10 speed has really changed the game for fuel mileage.

It all depends what you need the truck for, getting from point A to point B? Or do you need to haul cargo (slide in camper/camper trailer/flat trailers) from point A to point B.

I have close friends that have each and have been in each variation. If I was shopping for a new F150 my head would tell me the 3.5 but my heart and ears would do the 5.0 and on the way home from the dealership would stop off at a muffler shop for some exhaust work.

I get that. I have a 5.0 now and love the sound. But, I think I'd probably go EcoBoost next time around if I stay F150. The low end torque for towing may be too good to pass up.

in reality i would not get an F150 at this point in my life unless it was a Raptor, which would be foolish for me at this stage in my life ...Now I know when my neighbor gets his new F250 with 7.3 and 4.30 gears I will probably be beside myself with envy.

Not really, just miss the 6.5' bed, HD payload and HD towing and the nice tow mirrors

The F150 was more of a truck with a truck feel

I just got a 3.5 last week. Going from a 2012 gas f250, this 150 is a damned rocket ship.
33”toyo open country with the 3.55 elocker rear.
Just did a 700 mile round trip last weekend and the MPG average is sitting at 17, but that includes up to 93mph on the interstate, city traffic, several miles of 4lo trails in rock crawl mode and running the campsite coffee pot from the onboard 2KW inverter generator.

60k miles on my 2018 3.5 with max tow. A few recalls, service campaigns, and a failed check valve for the IWE system have been my only problems. Still on original spark plugs. I’ve been leveled since last year and 34’s since early spring.

The second gen eco boosts got dual fuel injection.

I love the sound of the turbos spooling. MPG starts dropping after 72mph.

My 2019 5.0L is a super crew, FX4 with 3.73 gears. I’m in Colorado and get 20mpg on the highway in the mountains at around 70 mph. I get 18 around town in the summer and 14-15 in the winter. 17 mpg towing my very small travel trailer.
