Took off my old rack for a leitner design active cargo system... One side will have a cargo pod and a set of tan matrax and the other side will have a cargo pod and some rotopax..... Should look and function great...

How did you like the frontrunner rack mounted to the bed rails? I'm considering one for my tacoma for my RTT. Was it strong enough to support the RTT and 2 adults? Did it move or shift/vibrate when driving on rough roads?

I like that rack and want to see how you set it up. Will have to take a look at it.

Looks great! can you take a pic of the bed from the back with the gate down? I would like to see how far the storage box hangs in. Do you have any concerns of theft? I understand they lock, I mean the mounting bolts.

Yah I'll get some pictures later... Now I'm on honey do's around the house...

I am sort of worried about theft but if someone really wants them they will find a way to get them off even if they lock.

That was my thought too. Time and some tools are all that's needed for most things. I think ill end up with 2 setups, one for general trips with a diamondback cover when I'm staying at hotels, and one with a rack like this for camping treks.

Hey Raul, I'm wanting to start building my own truck and love yours! Definitely inspiration.

I'm wondering though, how do you like the bed rack compared to your canopy?

My initial thoughts are that the bed rack would be less secure, more wet and more dusty with the same storage limitations and cargo access issues. I feel like I'm missing something though, since bed racks are certainly popular for overlanding. Maybe weight savings is the draw?

Thanks!

This is a great question. There are pros and cons to each one. When I originally had the shell I was wanting to sleep in it. After a few camping trips with this setup I soon realized that it was not going to work. The second reason is because with a shell you can no longer use the truck bed to carry anything large.

With my current setup (leitner design active cargo system) I have found the best of two worlds. A overland cargo system that retracts so I can still load up gear in the back like it was meant to be. I'll be doing an extensive post on this cargo system as soon as I have ran it through its paces.
