Fall Colors in the Rio Grande NF

I have not been out much this year but I was determined to see some fall colors, so the wife and I took a quick trip up to the Rio Grande National Forest in Southern Colorado.
We left Saturday Morning and went through Chama and FR250 to Platoro. We took 380 (with a side trip to Summitville) and the 390 out to 160 and stayed over night in Pagosa Springs. It was a short trip but it felt great to get into the woods a little.

Oh come on its just the leaves dying from lack of sap and short days with no sunlight causing sugar to form in the leaves.......like watching a dying man turn blue. Wow so pretty.
Spring is your reward for not committing suicide during Winter.:sombrero:

Nice, what part of New Mexico are you in? Heading up that way next week.

I am in ABQ! I hope the rain hasn't knocked the leaves off for your trip. There was still a lot of green so it should be really good this weekend.

Me too, I'm going more for fishing and to let the kid and dogs run around. What part of town are you in? Your Jeep looks familier.

I live in the NW but work almost at the Big I. There is another Cherokee running around ABQ that even has the same roof rack. Whenever I see it I think..No, can't be me because I am still driving! :sombrero:

great pics! I had planned to do that very thing last weekend myself but it didn't work out. I don't have a map handy and don't remember the route numbers but did you go over Blowout or Elwood passes or stick to the better roads in the area and come over Wolf Creek pass on 160? Great country!

Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed it

We stayed on the better roads. Our original plan was to go over Elwood but my wife was recovering from a bad case of bronchitis and the elevation was starting to get to her.
