Family Adventure Rig Build

Well, with our first child on the way, my wife and I figured her two door Honda Accord wasn't going to cut it. We needed a ride I could use as a daily, so that the Land Rover's 12-13mpg would no longer put such a big hole in my pocket, and a rig she could haul our son and future kids around town in. The big issue was we also wanted something that we could strap the roof top tent to and hit some mild trails with. After shopping around and reading up on all the forums we picked a Mitsubishi Montero. It was in our price range, had the thrid row seat, and locking diff. The only hard part was finding one that was not beat to crap. After lots of time wasted viewing junk, we found one. We bought a 98 Monty (wide body) with the winter package and 137k on the clock. It took bit to get it to pass smog because it had not been driven for almost a year, but drove it with a temp pass for a week and Seafoam, and it easily passed the second time around. As far as the build goes it will be a slow mild one. Here are some pictures as she sits today.

Congrats! I like the white a lot!! I picked up my 98 with the winter package and 122k miles this past July. Now I have 125k on it. I am glad I bought the Gen II.5 mainly bc I love the fender flares. Super clean and good find!

That's one of the best things about a Monty, they don't need a lot of mods to make them an awesome overland vehicle. The gen II.5 has to be one of the best looking SUV's made thus far. :sombrero:

I think that's the one I almost bought. I had my mechanic look it over really good and he had nothing but good thing to say about it.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
One thing i try to de every time i park my truck is turn and lock the steering wheel, for some reason the thieves have a hard time getting them unlocked and usually you'll end up finding the Monty idling in drive pushed up against something after driving in some big circles. At least that's what i've always heard happens to people who have Montero's that somebody tried to steal.

Cool. Thanks for the new ECU, MAF, door handles, and fuel pump. Glad to have spares now.

Jk. Seriously, not cool though. Price for living in California though, I suppose?

Stolen??? Oh man. I can't imagine what I would feel like if that happened to me. My vehicles have been broken into in the past and I know how violating it feels to just go through that. But having the whole vehicle stolen? Damn.
