Well here we go again. This time it’s many years later and my youngest son wants me to help him build a Squaredrop that he can pull behind his 2022 CanAm X3 TurboRR. The past 2 bulids my youngest help a little here and there but I believe he was around 12 years old at the time so he didn’t really get the quality Dad time like my Oldest son did. These little projects are a great way to bond with your children and to teach them a skill that could help them through their lives. Believe me we are not the best builders but I think we build a decent Square drop and with every one I’ve learned something new. I really had no intention of doing another build but when my son approached me and asked me to help him how could I say no. It’s actually good timing right now as I’ve been off work for a little bit having some heart issues so figured if we could get this project moving we could have it done in less than 2 weeks.
The first one I built was a 5x10ft build and we built it to have a rooftop tent on the top of it. I finished the exterior with just some Exterior good quality paint but I really didn’t know what I was doing and that trailer didn’t last long once it got some moisture in the wood. We also made the entry door from wood and it it would swell during humidity and almost make it so you couldn’t get out of the inside. Had to kick the door open once. From that time on I told myself I’d always buy a premade door and so on our second build that’s what we did and it was night and day better. On both my previous builds we also built the frame. Picture of my first build. This is my son who we are currently building this version 3.0 for. He was much smaller then. He’s 21 now. Had some really good times in this little trailer but we eventually sold it. We also had A/C on this first one we built but hardly ever used it.

So build number 2 or version 2.0 was a smaller 4x8 and we did things a little different than the first one. We uses 1x3’s for framing instead of 2x4’s which helped make it much lighter. We also finished it with PMF and man was that a lot harder than I thought it would be but it actually held up really well. We did eventually sell that one also. That one we also built the frame on. Here are a couple pics of the 2.0 trailer.
