Yes, I dare, ANOTHER tire question::drool:

First: what is the width of these OE 16" Toyota wheels?

Second: how will 235/85/16 BFG AT's mount up? Will they look stupid?

Third: I have 3:58 gears (really!) and a manual transmission, is it going to really ******k having 31.7" diameter tires?

Fourth: show me pictures!

stock is 16x7. I'll be putting a set of 235/85 muds on your same rims after awhile. 16x8 is acceptable but i'd rather run them on 16x7s.

I've got BFG A/T's in that size on my Toyota rims (16x7).

Also, if you're thinking about putting those Tacoma rims on your '99 Tacoma, be warned that the offset is higher on those rims than your stock rims, so it will look more pushed in. I'd search for 95.5-04 Tacoma or 96-02 4Runner rims. The backspacing for them is 4.625", whereas the 05+ rims are ~5", IIRC.

I run 235/85-16's on stock 16x7 rims and they work fine (my rims are steel but they are the same size as the alloy rims you pictured.)

Stupid looking? You tell me:

If they are E rated do not mount them on anything wider then 7inch. E rated tires have a VERY stiff carcus and by design they are for 6.5 inch rims. Wider rims create a lateral issue where the carcus rocks back and forth from lateral inputs.

I tired to mount a set to 8 inch rims (factory steel rims on my 3/4 ton burb were warped from brake heat and I upgraded to a 16x8 mag wheel) and caused all sorts of weird handling problems. at hwy speed even light inputs cause the truck to fell like it was on the verge of spinning out. I ended up going up to a 265x75x16 to fix the problem.

The AT's don't look bad, but I gotta say the MT's look a lot cooler in the skinny size. However, they're too noisy for a daily driver and long trips.

The 265/70R16's I have now do rub a bit at full lock over a bump, which makes sense with the different backspace. The 235's, although taller, will probably make up for it with the decreased width.

Regarding the gears, I think I'll buy the 235's and decide later..I definitely noticed when I went from the 225's to the 265's, 1st gear needs more gas and more clutch slip to get moving. OTOH the TTORA gear chart makes it look like not such a big deal.

I just ordered mine, to be installed tomorrow. $750 out the door. FYI if you do some haggling these days you can almost always get a better deal. I called around and one chain shop beat the best price by $25.

Costco actually had a really good price but wouldn't install them on my truck because they weren't a factory size for the vehicle. Dumb way to lose a sale.

I agree that an 8-inch wheel is too wide for a 235/85r16. They are much better on a Seven.

Glad to see a few people here running this size instead of a 265/75R16.

I have been on the 235's for about two years now and love them. I will do it again but probably in a MT next round. Who knows when that will be as these still look new. As far as gearing goes, I have 410's and I couldn't tell the difference between the new tires and old. General thought is the 5 speed V6's all had 3:58's but that is not always true. As far as looking stupid? I don't see it, downright sexy if you ask me. The truck has a small lift on it BTW. Oh ya, they are also E rated, the next ones will be D's.

If you have a 2.7 motor this is the largest tire you will want to run. I had 31" tires with 3.57 gears on mine before I lifted and geared. It was ok but 5th gear on the highway had nothing to offer and that was in Florida LOL! If you have a V-6 you will be good for sure. Ideally 4.10 would be best.

What 235/85-16 have you found in a D load rating???

I guess I meant to say the next ones will be load D's providing I can get them.

7wt, thanks for the pics, they look great on your rig, the lift helps a little too. I'll post pix as soon as I get 'em mounted today.

If I'm really bummed on the gear situation, then I'll bite the bullet and move up to 4.10s or better. From what I can tell this is not a DIY job?

7wt, your truck looks great. What lift do you have? Looks perfect with the 235's.

Here is mine at this point (with the 235's on Tundra wheels):
