Feeler: 1997 mild built LC values?

I'm amazed how the 'blue book' and NADA vary from real world dealings. The book says 97 Cruisers (LX450) are worth $8500 yet I see them sell for $10-$14K with little work done.

There is a 88 that just locally sold for $11K with no more than a lift kit and ARB bull bar and 205K on the odometer.

Whats a 96-97 Cruiser / LX450 with mild build bringing in your neck of the woods? Is it a market thing or simply a meeting of buyer and seller minds?

I ask because I may be on the verge of selling mine and am looking for a way to price it fairly. My last cruiser that I sold on ExPo was very newly built and the price was easily computed and justified in the buyers mind.

I'm in the same boat. I bought my 97 6 years ago for $10k, put another $10k (at least) into it and now might be trying to sell it! I have a 40, the 80, a Tundra for work and the 80 just sits but I have a real problem with letting go of it for WAAAY less than I have into it. Gonna try to keep it, wish me luck.

I think if I was looking now for a built 8o with low miles I would have no problem putting out $12-14k for the right truck. After building this one a whole lot of blood, sweat, tears and $$ went into it. Loved every minute of it.

Depends on condition, miles, and whether or not it has lockers, etc.

Good condition, under 150k miles, lockers, mildly built = $12k-15k.

That is a SWEET truck. $17,000 was a very reasonable price for that vehicle.

People say that you don't get any value for modifications. However, if they are the right mods, they definitely add value. These were the right mods.

Mine sold for $17,000 in one day.

I'm curious where this goes. To me, you'll only get return on your mods if you're selling to an enthusiast. The problem is, what percentage of the total market are enthusiasts? And how patient are you to wait for that buyer?

In my area, I see loads of FZJ80s. But the vast majority are stock and driven by (I presume) non-enthusiasts. Also, many here (Expo) may pay a bit extra for a recent knuckle rebuild or PHH. But the average buyer probably doesn't even know what a birfield is, much less the PHH. I keep toying with the idea of selling mine in order to get a 100 series. But I can't really fathom getting 10K for it in my area (very clean 95, 165K, knuckle rebuild, recent 285s, new shocks, cargo drawers, PHH and rear heater pipes). I was thinking anything over $8K would be doing pretty well.

I think it is fair, and possible, to get value for good mods. But you probably won't sell it on Craigslist in a couple days. Probably have to sell it here or 'Mud over the course of a few weeks.
