You might be a redneck if your fenders are full of holes! Or you may be intalling a snorkel. :wings:

How long did it take to mentally prepare to drill the first one?

Where's the final pic?

Cheers,

I probably checked and re-checked the template for an hour before drilling the first hole! I then slathered them up with paint and silicone - not a pretty job, but it should be functional for rust protection. I used a mix of touch up paint and rust paint.

Overall, the install wasn't overly difficult. More psychological than anything else since I usually prefer removable mods.

Here are some poser shots right after install. I've now had on the snorkel for about 2 weeks and absolutely love it. :wings:

Uh Oh - :chowtime: Thinking of some water time?

What's up with the fender flare?

Thanks for the reminder on the flare - that part almost made me sick!

I took the flare off to get at the fender liner easier and I knew that I would break a few of the blue & red snaps. Well I broke almost all of them. No big deal right? Just go to the dealership and pick them up right?

Well I got to the dealership to find out that they wanted almost $4.00 for each snap! I just about fainted because in the US those go for less than $1.00 each!

So it was a Saturday and needed them so I ended up paying +$30 in snaps. Even worse, it turns out that dealership was $1-2 per snap higher then another local dealer!

I guess the moral of the story is that if you are in Canada shop around for the snaps first!

I should also note that when I pulled off the fender liner I found mud inside the stock air intake tube. So maybe this might will turn out to be more then farkle after all...

Pete,
Your truck is coming together nicely! :wings:

I can just imagine spending all that time before making the first hole. Don't want to go oops after you start drilling. Where did you put the silicone, between the snorkel/bracket and the body?

Cheers ,

I probably stood there with the drill in hand for about an hour before making the first hole. The ones along side the windshield were the scariest!

I didn't use silicone around the fender holes. It really seemed pointless because water gets behind the fender liner anyways. The silicone won't stop the rust there, in reality it might even contribute to it if water and salt collect around it. But I did fill up the windshield mounts with silicone.

The process involves drilling three holes and snapping in plastic grommets into the holes. I first painted the holes and then slathered in there a ton of silicone before putting in the grommets. Then I put another coat of silicone between the grommets and bracket and then screwed it on. It appears to be completely water tight so rust shouldn't be an issue.
