FG build questions

Im in the process of planning my build... Im building on a 2001 fg with a 14ft flatbed.... I decided to use a truck camper and build off of that...Im looking at 2 different truck campers...The first is a lite weight type where the roof cranks up....The second is a a hard side....The hard side will extend past the top of the cab...With diesel prices extremly high mpg is definetly a factor in the build...Im wondering how much the difference in height will effect mpg?

You can use the frontal area in this chart to help you see the difference in drag.
While not MPG, it will show you the horsepower required to overcome aerodynamic drag, so a direct correlation. Use the .7 for (Cd) as yours will be worse.
(These are calculations for my truck, hence the specific areas)

I just looked into this...except using a travel trailer and removing its tongue/axle/wheels. Truck campers have a narrow floorplan to fit in a "bed" that doesn't exist on the Fuso. If you're wanting lots of external storage then it might not be a bad way to go.

Anyway, in the travel trailer department, take a look at the Hi-Lo 15T:

Or the Aliner Expedition:

I think both would look pretty good on the back of the Fuso, flush with the roofline while traveling, and give good insulation and comfort when you're at basecamp. Bill Caid did this on a larger scale with his Mercedes 1017 and a 20-something foot Hi-Lo:

Bill and his wife pulled into Expo right in front of me on Thursday. What a nice looking way to go, in my opinion. I believe he has a really super build thread on that thing too. If it is not here then it would be over at the benzworld.com forum, in the unimog section.

IF and it really is a BIG IF, but IF you can afford the High-lo, I would go with that. There are, however, regrettably few High-lo's out there. The slide in truck campers are every where, heck people give them away often.

I thought Caid said that Hi-Lo was out of business and he bought the last new one on the lot.

There's a pic around here somewhere of an Aliner on a Canter.
