Hi all,

Its been a while since I have been on here, but its good to be back.

Does anyone have fuel consumption figures for a FG84 LWB in deep sand.

I am planing a trip to the Simpson Desert in July, and trying to work out how much fuel to take.

I have tried a search, but haven't been able to find any info.

Cheers, Adam

I can't help you on fuel consumption, but I will be out there too in my FG637.

Which direction are you travelling? I'm going East to West, leaving Birdsville around the 1st of July.

LTT70,

Mate have a look on the ATW site in the testimonials section...
There is some info in there about fuel consumption in a canter.....
As well as some info on tyre pressure ....
Hope this helps....

Cheers Fugly

Hi Fugly, Thanks for the info, I have been on there a few times, but haven't found any fuel consumption figures, as far as tyre pressures, I have worked out the perfect pressures for my truck, for dirt tracks, sand and deep soft sand....I have got two sets of Staun tyre deflators, one set for sand and one set for deep sand, so it is just a case of getting out and screwing them on to the valves, I do one side and my partner does the other, takes about a minute to deflate all tyres.... To inflate them back up I have a onboard compressor with tank, which runs though a Jamec Digital Automatic Tyre Inflator, set the desired pressure connect the air hose and wait for the beep......
I have been to Fraser Island a few times, (I haven't got enough fingers and toes to count the times I have been there) I have fuel consumption figures for my Fraser trips but I can drive 60km up the beach which is like driving on the black stuff, so would give me false figures.....

Best guess I could give you for my 84 is 3.8km/L. That's from a couple of tracks around shark bay, (the steep point rd and pt peron track) probly 250km total, lots of corrugations, softish sand and whoops. Bear in mind that that's a guess taken by using my average hwy consumption of 5.5 for the other 1170km of that fuel period.

Just back Today from a double Simpson Crossing :-Birdsville - WAA Line - Rig Road - Mt Dare, Then Mt Dare - Via Madigans Track _ Birdsville. Count on at times Running at 25l/Hundred Ks. Fill at Mt Dare was 159Litres and at Birdsville was 210Litres. Sand is a lot different than beach sand which I've driven on a lot. Tyres we ran as low 25psi.

Hi Dan, Sounds like you had a great trip, thanks for the info.

I have 266 useable Litres in two tanks, so sounds like I will be ok....

How long did it take you to do, in total, and if you have any info you could give me on route camp spots etc, that would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Adam
