Fiberglass Alaskan Value ?

My uncle has an old fiberglass alaskan he is going to sell for around $1200, I have been toying with the ideal of buying it and putting on my 3500 4x4. It seems to be in decent shape. Is $1200 a good price for one of these? I see lots of the other style around to kind of gauge a price on but not the fiberglass ones. Thanks :)

Alaskan made the fiberglass camper for a couple of years in the
1970s. So it's likely that much of the camper will need refurbishment
or repair unless it's been regularly maintained.

Without more information about the condition of the camper,
it's difficult to make a guess about the value. Photos of inside
and outside would help, along with notes about what systems
(water, water heater, air heater, toilet, house battery and charger,
and so on) work, and which don't.

Forum participant Rot Box bought a fiberglass Alaskan Camper
a while ago. I'd suggest you send him a personal message and
arrange to talk with him about the camper.

That's not a bad price for an fiberglass Alaskan unless it's really beat up. Also they won't fit later model pickups (Dodge - '94 , Ford 99?and later)without some modifications unless you use a flat bed. So check your measurements.
Parts are still available for them from Alaskan (Alaskan.com).

I've seen them from $500 to $2500. I've been trying to get one for awhile now but they just seem to be on the west coast. So good luck and post some pictures.

Not sure how many were made, but they are rare. 1200 is good deal if it is still in fair cond. don't see many of those for sale. Tim.

To be honest I am not 100% sure on what systems it has and what works and does not work. Last time I was over at his house it was parked with a for sale sign in it and I wandered over and looked at it. Just gave it a quick once over so to speak. It was in the extended position so I assume the lift mechanism works. It has some kind of catalytic heater in it. I was more concerned with how it looked and figured I would just tear out most of the inside with the exception of what was formed in the glass and build what I wanted out of it. It is in nice shape as far as the fiberglass is concerned. But I guess I will have to see if it will fit my truck. Its a 97 3500 longbed chevy dually.............

Oops I guess I missed this one sorry I'm late :snorkel: :)

If you are in the market for an Alaskan I would be all over a fiberglass unit for $1200. AK's in general are very durable but I would have to say the fiber glass units are likely the strongest of any production slide in campers. Water damage is almost non existent and the walls alone are thick and very strong. Look for the usual signs of wear and make sure the hydraulics are in decent shape. Check out the link in my sig for my build.

If you do get it make sure and share it with us. These are VERY rare and its nice to see them getting used

I checked out your thread, that is the same camper to a T. And in very similar shape. Guess I need to figure out if I can use it with my bed or if the total price is worth it to put a flatbed on my truck and buy the camper, decision decisions decisions...............

your chev bed tapers in at the back and it may not fit. Measure very carefully.
