Finally found something I don't like about the Gen 3!

Whats up with the shallow cup holders that allow my water bottle to tip over?

What are those slots with ribs meant for?

My cell phone fits nowhere in the cab without me searching for it under the seats at the next red light.

2001 interior design had no plans for the future...am I the only one?

I dont know I like the seats. Yes, I am amazed at how ************ the cup holders are, lol.

Although at times I hate the lack of articulation, other times I love how well 4 wheel independent suspension works.....

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
...what about the horrible departure angle?
...a rear skid plate is on my list of mods...

I hate that people in the us. think you have a Montero because you can't afford a landcruiser...it does keep the price low however.

Do you think cutting out the box where the 3rd row seat stores would fix the departure angle? When I looked under that seem to be the lowest point that might bottom out.

Although it's got a big rear-end, just put a hitch on or build a bumper and let it drag. Cutting out the storage box would not give you much and it seems pointless to hack up a good vehicle and loose valuable storage space.

A smaller departure angle would be nice, but I'd hate to have a smaller cargo area for long trips. I think that's a huge benifit of the Gen 3 is how large the cargo area is.

I made a skid plate for the rear heater core which is really exposed. Between that and the hitch I've never had a problem. Although this winter I plan on making a rear bumper. I may gain a few degrees of departure angle, but mostly I want to drag it over anything and not worry

I would never give up the rear seat/cargo area...as others stated, it's too valuable.
I've considered a rear bumper, however the cost keeps me from attacking that project.
A skid plate, so the rear end can skid over obstacles is the most cost effective solution for my needs.

Asfir makes some very nice skid plates for the Montero. They make one for the rear bench seat area...I thought it would be neat to fabricate something similar that extends and attachs to the rear bumper -metal step section.
