Finally Found What I was Looking For

After months of looking and waiting for a local find, I found my 97 SR.
I've been searching Craigslist across the nation as well as Ebay. I nearly pulled the trigger a couple times and even checked into shipping charges.
Last month a vague photo and worthless title arreared on Craigslist that caught my eye. It was 3 hrs away and I could not get the seller to answer my calls or texts as to what it really was or any other info.
Yesterday she finally texted me with pics and I know I needed to see it. I made the three hour trip with money and wife.
The Montero looked good. The right front tire (BFG TA) was worn on the edge and cords showing, the cam seal was leaking but we fired it up, took a drive and made a deal.
$1000 for a 97 Montero SR!
I put the spare on and drove 75-80 mph for the 3 hour trip home.
I'll get some pics as it sits and after a detail.

I'll also be hitting up the knowledge here. The Cruise and power mirrors doesn't work. The compass on the dash has "S" just spinning around the face etc...

Many people just lurk around but I bet they are like me and just absorbing the knowledge here.

I pulled the third row and floor mats so I can start cleaning the carpet.

I need some of you to put my wife at ease. She wanted me to pass on it because the carpets were dirty and the clear coat is coming off the hood.

I like the red color a lot. As for the compass, easy fix Head to a parking lot, push the reset button and drive in circles until it finds north again. Takes no more than 2 orbits usually.

Looks like a steal to me! I just picked up a 99 Gen 2.5 after looking for a couple of years but mine had the top half of the engine pulled off I certainly wasn't able to drive mine home. Good on you...

I got the headliner cleaned up and shampooed the carpets. I got some 31x10.50's ordered and should have them mounted in the next couple days. Right now it has 4 different brands and 2 different sizes mounted.
I also got the ac charged so it should be ready for the road as my dd soon.

185K and no service records at all. The young girl I got it from didn't even know when the last oil change was. I've looked around and I can't find any stickers under the hood letting me know when the timing belt was changed either.

That is my next order of business, to get the belt changed.
Today it was tire time. 20160711_162809.jpg
As I said earlier, this rig had 2 different size tires from 4 different manufacturers when I drove it home. Now it sits on new 31x10.50's. I must say it drove a whole lot better on the way home with the new tires.
