Fire Extinguisher placement

I picked up a 2.5 lb extinguisher for my Jeep yesterday. I have a couple of places in mind to mount it. Is any one spot better than another. Obviously if it is mounted in the rear and you have a fire under the hood it is going to take a little longer to get to but will that short time really make a big difference? I am thinking of mounting ether in the hatch area in one of the notches of one of the rear windows or in front of my drivers seat near my legs. Recommendations?

I mounted mine on the back of the center console. I tried to place it where every person riding in the vehicle can reach it

:sombrero: I carry two, 2-1/2 lb KIDDEs, one at the outside base of each front seat-

In the JKU, there is an indentation just outside the seat base and I use 3/8" (loose) tywrap to keep them from bouncing-

Either one can be removed in less than 3 seconds--kinda handy, if needed !

Where ever you mount it make sure it is easily accessible and readily available If you have to Undo a worm clamp or dig through stuff in the back of your vehicle to get at it then it doesn't do much good, Both of which I have seen. A fire extinguisher is one of those items you need NOW not in 15 seconds.

This is what i used mounts directly to pass seat and slides forward and back with seat. Didnt buy from this retailer but you get the idea.

That is what I will do! I won't have to buy anything because I have a ram mount lap top stand in my jeep. The seat bracket has a nice flat spot I can drill and mount the mount it came with to the bracket.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Dont forget to service regularly especially on vehicles as the charge tends to settle and solidify on dry chem extinguishers subject to vibration :smiley_drive:

I also now have one on the other side too. Can't forget the one between the seats either. Nearly caught my jeep on fire when I first got it and it still had the factory fuse (yes, singular, what were they thinking back then) and no fire extinguisher.

Worth ensuring that in the event of a collision, the extinguisher doesn't break loose and become an airborne missile, though the same applies to axes, Maglites, spades and anything else you may not want flying about in the passenger cabin!

Have mine between front seats and one in the back. Good point on potential for becoming a flying missile. Would also install one in the back.

I got it mounted. I have a RAM MOUNT laptop stand that has a steal mount that is attached to the front factory pass seat bolts. I drilled some holes and bolted it there. My axe, shovel and hi lift are mounted on the roof. If all goes as planned I go on my first expo style trip tomorrow. A friend and I are running the Ozark Overland Trail. Can't wait! I plan to take lots of pictures.

Sounds like a good time. Hopefully all will go well and there won't be a need to use that freshly mounted fire extinguisher. Maybe post up a thread and some pics of your adventure?

i have a small one on each doorpanel.

in the pic you can just see how thick the kickpanel is - they don't stick out past that panel into the foot space really. i've had them there for a few years and they haven't been in the way, but it would depend on the vehicle.
