Fire Extinguisher Shower...

Ok, I know this is way out there but I thought Id throw the idea out for discussion. I have several 2.5 gallon Stainless Steel pressurized fire extinguishers. I was thinking that it would be real easy to lengthen the hose, change the nozzle, attach it to the compressor with a regulator or leave it a stand alone system. Possibly heat the water a bit to make a very portable shower.

Anyone done this here? Heard anything like it? Pros, Cons?

not out there at all it works great,,, i use one for a flame thrower.

i would either leave it attached to the rig with a hose on low pressure or install the pressure reg after the tank.

i have this exact setup. i use a stainless steel fire extinguisher that i have modified. i removed the valve and added a sink sprayer with a trigger. fill it with water, heat it on a stove, plug my regulated co2 in at 20 psi and shower. the sink sprayer with trigger allows you to spray down soap up and rinse without the water running in between. it also holds heat well.

I use an old portable eye wash station. It is just like one of the old soda syrup tanks, except only ever had sterile saline in it. I have attached an air tank to pressurize it and put a kitchen sink spritzer for the shower head/handle. The old tank had a large paddle to activate the eyewash function. I can vary the flow rate with it.

I had thought of using CO2 to pressurize, but wondered if it would cool the water that has been heated. Solar bag at the moment.

To be honest, this contraption is big and bulky. If I'm going to be doing a basecamp type outing I'll bring it. Otherwise if the trip is a series of one night stands as it were, I can forego a shower for a few days.

I can also... But a shower is a great sales tool to get Mrs. M.T. to go with me. Shes a trooper but does like to wash up when she does go. Something about that desert dust that gets everywhere. And a small price to pay for her companionship. :ylsmoke:

We used one for years as a weed sprayer. Just drilled into the tank for a schrader valve and pumped it up. Cant see why it wouldn't work for a shower!

I would suggest adding a pop-off valve to prevent over pressurizing. Ultimately this was the end of out unit......idiot employee pressurized it way too high and a seam split.

FWIW I can shower with a gallon of water. Did it for a couple of summers (I lived in a camper without H2O). Wet yourself up, soap, and rinse. The women folk might have a hard time using a gallon rinsing having more hair than us guys........

we did this EXACT setup for camping..made a wand that extended..put a turn on the end..a showerhead on it..2gal was perfect for a shower..and just leaving it in the sun worked to heat it...

would pump it up to 80psi and that was plenty for a miltary wet/soap/rinse shower..

See, I stole my idea from a glue sprayer that the crew chief of a drag racing school made to spray the track for better traction. I don't need to think about the tank splitting and covering us with glue. It never did fail, but oh man if it had.

you can get two showers if your quick; in fact, i have gotten three out of one tank. if you have a water source you can take a nice, long, hot shower and fill it and heat it again for the next person. it only takes a few minutes to heat two gallons.

and ya it's a little bulky; but, it's very simple so it wont likely break and, if you already have the bottle, it's free.

case and point i made one for the girlfriend, but i like it more then her. you can act cool, get on the board and talk about not take a shower for days/weeks at a time or, you can take a shower and be comfortable. i love being able to take a shower before bed because i sleep better and wake up more refreshed, and i can better enjoy my time rare time off work.

An old aluminum tank will give you 5 gallons and all the hoses are fully nest able. You can heat it on a campfire(once rubber feet are removed) or wire an inline hot water heating element.

Washing the hair seems to be the biggie, back in the day I had shoulder length hair so I can relate to that.

hehehehe......Yeah I find that I smell like campfire smoke no matter what I do. Americans grossly overate the daily shower.....and some places the earth just spews up a hot bath! Oregon has lots of roadside free hot springs (Baths):wings:
