Fire Extinguisher

I have always kept a Fire Extinguisher in my BMW after a near disaster and was looking to install one in near front seat. Does anyone make a mount or have a solution?

With any fire extinguisher for automotive you should look for one that is rated for Class B fires which involve flammable liquids and gases. Find a good spot for the extinguisher and get the biggest one you can live with. Those little ones may not cut it when it counts. I have used one once and the dry chemical seemed to sputter out. I only had to deal with a small fire but anything bigger and it would not have been good. Automotive fires are usually caused by leaking flammable fluids or electrical shorts. Class C extinguisher will deal with the electrical fires. There are some gaseous Class B and C extinguishers on the market using Halatron or Halon but they are quite pricey, often costing well over $100 for a small bottle. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/htr-hg100r

All this being said, any fire extinguisher is better than none.

Just my $.02. Like the above post says: any is better than none.

Think of it like any investment. Do you want to buy what's cheap now and *hopefully* works right when the time comes. Or spend a little more for one that will truly prove it's worth in weight when the time comes?

That being said. I don't have one, but it's high on the priority list of things to purchase.

I have been in a vehicle fire without one. Fortunately quick thinking on my dad's part and a 12 pack of dr pepper in the back the fire was extinguished quite quickly. But it had the potential to go crazy with a quickness and a proper fire extinguisher would have been much more effective, safe, and smarter.

Mine's a Kidde brand 5-B,C. It came with a pretty weak vehicle mount, but is now secured with two Quick Fist clamps. Wherever you store your extinguisher, be sure you can get to it quickly. Seconds really do count, and you can put a surprising amount of fire out with a properly used extinguisher.

I like where you mounted that. I was looking at putting it near my knee on the door itself, but that looks much more neat.

Make sure you mount it to something more substantial than plastic or you'll be wearing it if you have an accident.
