Firearms in Expedition Vehicles

I hope this is acceptable here - not trying to cause a stir for those not into firearms. But I've noticed that many on here are into firearms. So how do you transport your guns with you in your rigs? Do you have racks, or pelican cases or what? Getting ready to pick up the new family EXPO ride and looking for ideas as well as shared solutions.

Take care and stay safe.

My two 45 cal Glocks go into the range bag along with the ammo, and my S&W M&P 15-22 goes into a nice soft case.

I go for out of line of sight, but not out of reach.
Be aware of where you are traveling, each state has its own handling laws. Last thing you want is to be arrested for not having it locked up to code.

Thank you Haven - I appreciate it.

Postal - I can't agree with you more. The worst thing I can imagine is a wonderful trip & experience being marred by violating local laws after crossing a line on a map. Even after calling CHP and getting more info I'm always nervous going into California for that very reason.

Corey - My only concern with that is for whatever reason I don't mind traveling like that to the range - but the idea of it for any longer trip it just feels like a half way solution - for me. Maybe its a personal thing I'll just have to get over.

Irish - thanks for the link. I like the idea of the hard cases - maybe some Pelicans or other brand of hard case - I'm thinking for me if thats the long term solution I need to work on a better overall storage system that incorporates the hard cases then.

:sombrero: In California, I carry rifles/pistols (unloaded)-in hard cases and off-road I carry my 45's in the drivers sunvisor !-handy-

I carry long guns in their case (unloaded), usually hard side cases, but my usual 'take along' shotgun is just in a soft padded case.

I carry either my .40 or .45 on my person or within reach, and keep a padded case in the center console, for when I cross into a state where my permit to carry isn't honored (I drive through CO quite a bit, and they don't honor my carry permit at this time)

I just avoid areas/states where carrying/having a handgun readily accessible is against the law.

Bill Hill - I guess I don't understand, is there some particular reason you want to carry concealed? You could certainly open carry (weapon holstered and in plain view) in Colorado, so long as you don't enter areas of the state (federal buildings, schools, certain hospital complexes, etc.) that specifically prohibit firearms. Unless you have a compelling reason to carry concealed rather than open, I don't see the issue. But then I've always liked open carry environments.

Open carry is great but concealed carry is better in many situations. Go to Target open carrying and your likely to get escorted out by the local PD even though their store doesn't have a sign up. Here in CO they can only ask you to leave even if they have a sign. Again Concealed and no one thinks about it, out of sight out of mind. Open carry can also single you out if you were in a bad situation. I used to open carry alot but once I found a really comfortable IWB holster I've just conceal carried since then. I use a Crossbreed Supertuck, but their are quiet a few others out there that work the same way.

Agreed 100%

One of the prime reasons to CC is to AVOID any attention.

That said, I CC as often as I can. Within a vehicle included. 380 LCP

I also have an XD 40 mounted to the dash center of the vehicle. All other firearms get stowed.

I avoid CA. Lots of reasons to do so. Firearms regs is just one more reason.

To be honest, I didn't realize a non resident could open carry in CO.

While I do have a lock box I keep in my rigs, I prefer to have my sidearm with me as opposed to unattended in my vehicle.
(locks only 'Keep honest people Honest')

MN is an 'Open Carry' state, when you get a permit, it's a 'Carry Permit' (you do need it to carry, open or concealed) it's your choice to carry open or concealed.

And, as HillbillyfromAL mentioned, MN is the same as far as signage. If a business has signs up, all they can do is ask you to leave. If you refuse, it's a misdemeanor offense (simple trespass) Schools, Fed buildings and Court rooms are a No-Go.

I like open carry enviorments myself! Usually when I'm in CO, I'm either driving through, or out in the sticks running the trails and mountain passes. Having suspension buckets in both Jeeps, makes it uncomfortable to carry while behind the wheel, so I usually just have it unloaded in the center console.

Defintely going to read up on the Open carry in CO! I like that.

IMHO if you carry concealed or openly you should then boycott the states that don't allow either and spend you hard earned $$$$ enjoying states that are arms friendly!

I use a soft case most times, although I REALLY want a pelican case. I CC all the time and can anywhere I go (sign or no sign)...legally.
