Firefighters and Public Safety

I been in Public Safety since I was 16. Started as a Lifegaurd. Then became an EMT in the South Bay of LA County. Tuff gig. Ran calls with Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach Fire. Gardena, Hawthorne and Inglewood on occasion before they became LACoFD. Been in Law enforcment for almost 14 years. Became a Deputy to do SAR. The TV show 240-Robert started a dream as a kid . Started in LA County under Sheriff Block. Then took a two year paid vacation with a Sonoma County Sheriff. Best job ever! Would have stayed but had to try and prevent a divorce and came back to So Cal. Took job with Ventura Co Sheriff. Nice place to live (if you can afford it). They have a great SAR team and an awesome Air unit that flies both LE and Fire SAR missions. My personality didn't fit in too well with the Dept. The guys were great, wasnt hip on the Admin.

Two years ago relocted to AZ after getting remarried. Took my first city job with a PD. Not really my cup of tea. Still held on to the dream of doing SAR work as a living. Went back to school. Worked hard and got accepted to Paramedic school. One month into it this week. When I finish I hope to eventually get on with our State Police Air Rescue helicopter unit. It will be a dream come true. That may end up taking 20 years!

There is a joke..What do every cop and ten year boy have in common? They both want to be Fireman. If I get the Officer/Flight Medic gig. I'll have the one job as a cop, every Fireman wants. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAMS!!!

Started in LE in 1968 (courtesy of the selective service system) Obtained an Associate Degree in Criminology from the University of Saigon through their OJT program. Returned to my home area and served 20 years with local city law enforcment department. Then to my dream job of Undersheriff in a 4400 square mile county with all types of terrain and problems. Was SAR coordinator for the Sheriff right from the start. Am now Sheriff/Fire Warden of that same county and it is still my dream job!! (I had a four year break when I lost an election but I needed a break anyway) LE SAR and Wildland Fire will always be my work passion. Day off passion is the FJ and Tentrax and headed for somewhere in Montana we haven't been before. Tom and Elaine:sombrero:

I'm a North Las Vegas firefighter and have been on the job about 3 years. I'm currently a EMT-I. I had plans for medic school......but I just got a bid at the busiest station (Station51) so that may have to wait a while:victory::wings:

Our city is a mix between old and new. I prefer to spend my time in the older parts of the town where there are more calls. I have a awesome crew that really works well together. It is almost criminal how much fun we have each shift - we did work our arses off though and don't get much sleep.

BEST JOB IN THE WORLD........PERIOD.

All volunteer here. I have a day job as a Merchant of Death (MoD) selling wares to the U.S. Government. I am an EMT-B with Idaho Mountain Search & Rescue. Also an AHA BLS Instructor so I can keep our members current and pick up some spending money on the side by teaching a few classes.
