First 4runner

Hey everyone I just bought my first 4r, 2002 set. I'm hoping to get some good advice and info, anything I can learn about these trucks would be appreciated. But more specifically right now ive noticed when im driving mine seems to "float" a bit and also shakes more than I think it should at 70mph? I do need new tires, but I was wondering what suspension should start to be replaced if everything is original? What tires are best for 80-90% road life but also wanna be able to go discover (hiking, fishing, camping) locations at least 10-15%? Can I fit 32"s on the 02 4r and what's my mpg gonna look like? Are there any other glaringly obvious things I should be checking out with my new(old) girl? Thanks for your patience in advance!

head over to tacomaworld.com and hit the 4runner section. they'll have tons of info for you. and congrats on the new ride.

32s-265/75 should run fine. Any good A/T type tire will do what you need. Personally I like the BFG ATs. 1 size up in tire wont make much mileage difference. Wouldn't be a bad idea to at least do the ball upper ball joints if its got some miles for sure. If you want to lift ARB is probably one of the most affordable unless you just want to do spacers. (you don't want to just do spacers) Im running the Sonoran Steel http://www.sonoransteel.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9&products_id=1 set up on mine and it rides really well. It's a little pricey if price is all your considering. But, I believe the value is there. Toytec also has some good set ups. Make sure the timing belt has been replaced and if not do the water pump with it. If you haven't already check the rear backing plates for gear oil, axle seals are common to those. Congrats and enjoy. 3rd gens rule

I'd replace the lower ball joints on a 1st gen Tacoma or 3rd gen 4Runner (same front suspension) on any truck I did not know the full history. That's the weak point in the design.

"Floating" is vague but I suspect worn front end parts, so like mentioned probably be looking at ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings and an alignment. Tires could be a problem of course but it's my experience that tires are more symptomatic, they'll wear in to the misalignment and mask the root problem. New ones might cause it to be more obvious.
