First shot of 2009

This is my first photograph of 2009. My friend Charles took me out to the causeway that goes from the Hinkley Ranch to the south end of Antelope Island. This causeway is on private property, behind a big locked gate and is impossible to get to without permission. Fortunately Charles does have permission and allowed me to tag along with him today.

This causeway has had three breaches punched into it so that no one can use it to access the southern portion of Antelope Island. It's too bad, as we were about 2 miles from the island and there are some cool rock formations to photograph on that end that you cannot get to otherwise.

Here's where I was:

Fantastic as always Michael.

Thank you for sharing.

Always a pleasure. Not really an 'expedition', but I did have to put the truck in diff-lock to avoid from getting stuck. ;)

Cool shots guys. You're making my shutter finger itch.

I need to get out and play with the new 400mm f/2.8 IS we got for Christmas:punk03:

Michael, what lens are you using for these wide shots, or are they with your large format camera?

Well, the wide shots are a combination of a bunch of different gear. I choose what to use depending on the situation.

For this particular shot I used my 12-24 at 12mm. It is also a combination of 4 seperate shots...12mm wasn't wide enough for me because I didn't want to move backwards and ruin my foreground. So, I decided to stitch.

I did shoot the other day with the 8x20, but the wind was blowing so hard yesterday it stayed in the Peli case.
